A Guide to Bath and Body Accessories in Singapore

Something as essential as showering can often become extremely mundane. If standing under the shower and washing your body with a boring bar soap sounds like a tedious chore, why not incorporate some bath and body accessories to your routine? Bath and body accessories can give you a sense of variety because they allow you to pamper yourself that no bar soap is able to do.

Types of Bath and Body Accessories

Although there are many types of bath and body accessories, the most common ones are bath sponges. If you’re using the right tools, it doesn’t matter what kind of bath soap or bath products you use.

  • Body loofah – This type of body sponge is made from fibrous material found in luffa, a gourd-like tropical fruit. It comes in many shapes and sizes and they need to be replaced regularly because it can easily become a haven for bacteria.
  • Body scrubber – Body scrubbers are typically sponges that are used to exfoliate dead skin cells. Some scrubbers even incorporate other materials like charcoal for a thorough exfoliation.
  • Body brush – Although its function is similar to a body scrubber, a body brush is usually attached to a long handle so you can clean hard-to-reach areas. The brush bristles can range from soft to hard depending on how much dead skin you want to get rid.
  • Bath poufs – This fluffy, cloud-shaped bath sponge is the one of the most common bath and body accessories. Bath poufs are the most affordable out of the three and you can find them in most major drugstores and supermarkets.

How to Properly Use Your Loofah

You can either use your loofahs for your face, your body, or both. Make sure you don’t use the same loofah when cleaning your face and body. For facial exfoliation, you have to wet your loofah with warm water to make it softer. Then, you can put a small amount of facial exfoliator or cleanser onto the loofah. Use the loofah gently on your face and down your neck by moving it in small circles. If you have sensitive skin, avoid applying too much pressure that can cause skin irritation and redness. After you’ve cleaned you face, neck, and décolletage, proceed to rinse and dry your skin with a clean towel.

For the body, you can use a coarser loofah to eliminate stubborn dead skin cells. The steps are generally the same as the facial exfoliation but you need to pay extra attention to certain areas like the elbows, knees, feet, and underarms. After you’re done showering, there are a few extra steps you need to do to ensure the cleanliness of your loofah. If you don’t want to replace your bath sponge every month, you can try boiling them in a pot of water and dry it thoroughly.
