For me, surfing is as close a connection I can have with Mother Nature. To surf, you're riding a pulse of energy from Mother Nature. And it's strong. It's real. It's there. And you're dancing with that. You're connecting with that. You're might be the only person in the history of the universe that connects with that particular pulse of energy. Xavier Rudd reminds us with the state of mind that is so elusive, you can only get it by riding a wave. What better way to connect with Mother Nature in style than with Billabong’s surf apparel and accessories for men and women. Get to the beach stat and in style.

Back to basics with Billabong

Founded on Australia’s Gold Coast back in 1973. Gordon Merchant, surfer and ‘surfboard shaper’, and his then partner, Rena Merchant established one of the most recognized surf brands across the globe, Billabong. The pair started by designing boardshorts and cutting them out on their kitchen table and then taking those finished pieces to the local surf shop to sell.

Gordon’s unique triple-stich technique made Billabong’s boardshorts a hit with surfers. The public took to the brand’s superior functionality and quality that lasted. The brand’s next move was to maximize marketing by introducing the brand to the better local surfers and eventually special events and Company-sponsored contests.

By the 1980s, Billabong had a firm foot in the Australian surf culture and made its way across the globe to the North American market with resounding success. The brand took on New Zealand, Europe, Japan and South Africa afterwards.

In the 1990s, the brand continued to grow in the surfing industry, gaining respect amongst professional surfers. Billabong also branched out into other boardsports and created products from skate, snow and wakeboarding. Gordon’s contribution to the surfers are aplenty and this list of highs include the time he introduced a surfboard with a tucked-under edge and when he invented the first leg-rope.

These highs were magnified with the worldwide exposure the brand was getting in the water. Surfers such as Luke Egan, Wayne Bartholomew, Munga Barry, Shane Dorian, Taj Burrows, Sunny Garcia, the late Ronnie Burns, Joe Engel and Mark Occhilupo. Billabong continued making waves and acquisitioned key brands from the men’s and women’s categories to expand its portfolio.

Athletes and the stars pair up

Considering Billabong’s exceptional quality, its chic creations are favored by novice surfing enthusiasts and even the professional surfers. Currently the brand has the likes of Jessica Anderson, Christian Merello, Justine Dupon, Frankie Harrer, Taylor Clark, Creed McTaggart and Paloma Santos among others under its Rider portfolio.

Billabong also has a steady stream of celebrity followers. That list includes Kate Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, Ashley Benson, Sydney Wheeler, Lea Michele, Josh Hutcherson, Daria Werbowy, Bonnie Wright, Anna Paquin, Anna Kendrick, Justin Bieber, Gemma Ward and Emma Roberts. That’s not all, athletes such as Katelyn Ohashi, Laura Enever and Jazmyn Foberg are fans of the brand too.

Collection highlights

Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds us to, “Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.” A brand that embodies this sentiment and calmer ocean vibes is surf brand, Billabong. If you can’t get enough of the sea, surf and sand – this is the brand for you. From swimwear, watches, backpacks, apparel, sporting goods and skateboards, Billabong has everything you need for a beach getaway, to swim or to surf in style. You know the drill, “happiness is sand between our toes and the sunburn on my nose.”

In June 2015, Billabong Men released their Pulse X Boardshort. This tri-colored beauty features the brand’s exclusive performance fit. This enables the wearer to expect an enhanced stretch and the material withstanding high energy. This is because of the boardshorts’ precision engineering that minimizes its seams.

The brand also has a line called Submersibles. This ingenious invention is built for both land and water use. This is the perfect pair to use when outdoors, it has the comfort of your usual pair of walking shorts and functions as a boardshort when the situation calls for it. A true blue must have to catch those last minute or unexpected waves. You know what they say, life is better in boardshorts!
