Google Home Mini Singapore Price, Features, Review

Appearing in the size of a doughnut is the Google Home Mini, which, judging by the name, is a compact version of its preceding model Google Home but shares similar features and capabilities to its antecedent. Let’s take a deep dive into what the Google Home Mini offers and why it is the perfect assistant for your home.

From controlling smart home gadgets and playing videos on a Chromecast-enabled screen to playing your favourite music and locating your misplaced phone, Google Home Mini can perform just about anything that a smartwatch does to make your life easy, minus health monitoring and heartbeat tracking.

On top of the device is a fabric mesh that is touch-conductive in certain areas for tapping pauses and resuming play. Its rear comes in matte plastic and features a microphone toggle switch that allows you to disable active listening and a micro USB port for receiving power. A circular rubber mat is at the bottom, which helps the device to stay still on any surface. In terms of colours, you can find the gadget in peach (coral), grey (chalk), and black (charcoal).

Supported by Google Assistant, the Google Home Mini has a speaker that receives audio very well. So even if you are 3 metres away from it, the Home Mini can still pick up your voice. Pairing it up with your smartphone’s Google Home app is effortless. Once the process is set up, you can prompt the speaker to play your tunes just by saying the song title, or hit the Cast button to enable your phone to amplify its audio through the Home Mini right away.

Aside from listening to great tunes, the smart speaker can give you a personalised reminder of your calendar, report the latest news or give someone a call. If you have a Google Nest thermostat at home, simply request your Home Mini to control the temperature according to your preference.

Comparing the Home Mini to Amazon’s Alexa and Echo Dot, it achieves what is expected from a home assistant with the various functions it has, thanks to Google Assistant. Plus, Google Assistant understands the Singaporean accent better than Alexa and Echo. If your home is already equipped with Google Smart Home ecosystem, then a Home Mini will be a useful addition that won’t leave a dent in your wallet.

For audiophiles who care about music quality, you may want to look at premium Google Assistant-compatible Bluetooth speakers from other brands (Sonos Beam, Sonos One, JBL Link Bar, or LG XBoom AI ThinQ WK7) instead, as it doesn’t come with bass or equaliser for you to adjust audio settings based on the music genre you’re immersing yourself in. But if it isn’t your major concern, the Home Mini is suitable for casual listening as it’s capable of producing clear, solid sounds.

With the advent of smart technology today, smart speakers are better options than traditional Bluetooth speakers, since they can perform multiple functions that are in sync with your smartphone or other smart devices. So, there’s no better time than now in making the Google Home Mini part of your family!
