Is Huawei Mate 20 Pro worth it?

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is fitted with a 6.39-inch OLED screen, with better resolution than the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. It has a Note 9-esque panel that is curved at the edges and sports a crisp 3120 x 1440 resolution. You'll never miss a detail when viewing high-resolution media on the Mate 20 Pro. On the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, you'll be able to find an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. All you need to do to unlock your phone is a gentle touch on the sensor. With its 'floating touch technology', the phone can detect your finger even while it's nearing the screen.

Powered by an Octa-Core processor, the Mate 20 Pro enables you to multitask with ease and enjoy a stutter-free gaming experience. A bonus to that is the new Kirin 980 chipset featured on the phone. One of the benefits of the chipset is its ability to deliver better performance of up to 20% while the battery is 40% more efficient than its predecessors. Besides having Android 9.0 as its operating system, it also has 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, as well as 40W fast charging and 15W wireless charging capabilities.

As for the Mate 20 Pro's camera features, Huawei Mate 20 houses a triple camera setup on the rear including a 40-MP (f/1.8) wide-angle lens + 8MP (f/2.4) telephoto + 20MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide angle, an LED flash in a 2x2 grid, and a 24-MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.0. Some of the aspects that the phone's camera excels at include great dynamic range and HDR, vibrant yet natural colours as well as night mode. That said, the camera starts to struggle when you zoom in as it will automatically overprocess the photo.

While the phone no longer supports microSD, Huawei replaces it with a new type of expandable storage named Nano Memory card (NM) that goes into one of the dual-SIM slots.

All in all, if you're looking for a robust phone packed with a stunning display, tons of features and long battery life, Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a fantastic Android phone to go for. Given that its triple camera setup and 4200mAh of battery life are identical to the P30 Pro, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is definitely worth your bucks.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review

  • Top-notch AMOLED with superb brightness and sunlight contrast
  • Fast Android processor Kirin 980
  • Great security options - 3D face recognition and UD fingerprint sensor
  • 40W wired charging, 15W fast wireless charging, 2.5W reverse wireless charging
  • Colossal 4200 mAh battery
  • The triple camera is the best all-round setup on a smartphone

  • No 3.5mm headphone jack
  • The stereo speakers are squeaky, one is in the USB port
  • The front camera would benefit from autofocus
  • Proprietary memory cards with extremely limited availability
