The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus’ release date is now confirmed: February 25. According to Samsung, the device is set to be revealed at Samsung’s Unpacked 2018 launch event at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona Spain. Aside from the S9 Plus, the audience will also see its core version in the event. Based on the leaked images online, the S9 Plus may have a larger screen, improved battery capacity and may come with a dual-lens camera setup. Here are some things you need to know about this much-awaited device from Samsung.
Undoubtedly, the S9 Plus will sport a large Super AMOLED screen. Although the actual display size remains uncertain, it will probably be the same size as the screen on the S8 Plus. Rumors suggest that the S9 Plus will retain the 1440 x 2960 screen resolution and may come with an 18:5:9 aspect ratio. There’s also a possibility that the device will be equipped with a fingerprint scanner on the device’s front panel. Another feature that may possibly appear on the S9 Plus is a glass coating that can reduce reflections and resist fingerprints and splashes of water.
According to some industry sources, Samsung may be working on a camera that can shoot at 1,000fps, which enables high-quality slow-motion footage. And this might be integrated into the Galaxy S9 Plus. There are reports that say the S9 Plus will sport a dual camera set up on the rear, which is not available on the Galaxy S9’s core version, as it might have just a single-lens sensor. Aside from that, there is a leaked photo that shows the standard S9 having an f/1.5-2.4 variable aperture and 12-MP sensor with optical image stabilization. An aperture of f/1.5 enables more light to come in which is great for shooting in dim lighting conditions, while the f/2.4 offers a deeper depth of field to produce sharp shots under good lighting. As for the front snapper, the only rumor associated with it is the one from a leaker named Universelce, claiming it might sport a 3D sensor. That might mean the S9 Plus will come with a facial recognition system similar to iPhone X’s Face ID.
Processor and Battery life
According to the latest reports, the S9 Plus is likely to house a 3,500-mAh battery. With the device’s rumored chip – the Snapdragon 845, the S9 Plus’ battery can deliver 30 percent better power efficiency. Speaking of the chipset, the Snapdragon 845 will enable the device to run a whole bunch of new features, aside from a much-improved battery life. For consumers in Asia, they will get the S9 Plus model with the Exynos 9 Series 9810 processor that is on par with the Snapdragon 845.
