In direct contrast with the fantastic adventures created by Studio Ghibli co-founder Miyazaki Hayao, director Takahata Isao uses the animation platform to tell more down-to-earth stories that challenged traditional animation conventions. 1991's Only Yesterday is one of these films. Partly based on the manga by Okamoto Hotaru and Tone Yuko, the drama chronicles an urban woman's literal journey to the countryside away from her troubles in the city, as well as her mental journey back to her carefree childhood days, when things were far simpler. To ensure the animation reflect the realistic style of the story, Only Yesterday was one of the first Japanese animated films to break tradition and have animators draw according to the actors' voice performances. 27-year-old Taeko has lived in Tokyo her whole life. After experiencing the daily grind as a company employee, she decides to go to Yamagata to visit her sister-in-laws to get away from city life. Along the way, Taeko begins to reflect on her life as child, when her biggest worry was being able to go on holidays like her classmates. While her time in Yamagata makes her rethink the priorities in her adult life, she also remembers other childhood events like first love and worrying about her grades. In the process, Taeko begins to wonder whether she had been on the right path all these years Blu-ray Edition includes making of, storyboards (in picture-in-picture mode), dubbing script, picture label, and trailers.

Please note this is a region B Blu-ray and will require a region B or region free Blu-ray player in order to play. Created by successful television producer J.j. Abrams, Lost has become one of the most popular and critically acclaimed programmes of its day. The story concerns the survivors of a terrible plane crash, who find themselves stranded on a tropical island with seemingly little chance of a rescue. Medical doctor Jack takes a position of leadership, helping to rally the survivors and prepare them for a period of difficulty as they learn how to survive on the paradisaical island. But everything is most definitely not as it seems, and as the series progresses the island's many dangers and mysteries are revealed; including evidence that the plane crash may not have been an accident after all. As they struggle to survive, each of the characters forms alliances and makes enemies, all while dealing with the unresolved issues of the lives they've left behind. Lost distills the difficulties of society down to their essence, exploring these problems with compelling characters and with a setting that's equal parts paradise and mystery. With the coexistence of humans and nature as its central theme, this fantastic tale is a sobering vision of what could be our own future. After an apocalyptic war known as the "Seven Days of Fire," the civilizations that humans had prized so highly have been obliterated. One thousand years after the war, the remnants of humanity eke out their existence in a small area of land, threatened on all sides by the "Sea of Corruption," a vast forest of fungi and insects. One evening, a gigantic transport vessel hailing from the Kingdom of Torumekia crashes into the Valley of the Wind - a small pocket of land protected by ocean breezes from the deadly "miasma" gas that blows across the land. The people of the valley, under the direction of Princess Nausicaa, work to clean up the wreckage of the vessel, and in its remains they discover the devastating weapon used to decimate humanity in the ancient war. Soon, the valley is attacked by Kushana, princess of Torumekia, and its inhabitants unwillingly become entangled in a war between Torumekia and the city of Pejite...

Acclaimed Japanese animation production house Studio Ghibli - co-founded by legendary animation director Miyazaki Hayao - is back with its latest production two years after Ponyo. While Miyazaki co-wrote and produced The Borrower Arrietty, directing duty has been handed this time over to Yonebayashi Hiromasa, who has been working at the studio as an animator since Princess Mononoke. With this film, Yonebayashi became the youngest director of a Studio Ghibli film. Based on The Borrowers by British author Mary Norton, The Borrower Arrietty takes place in a world in which tiny people called Borrowers rely on "borrowing" tiny objects inside the human house they inhibit to maintain their survival. Young actress Shida Mirai (Nobody to Watch Over Me) voices main character Arrietty, a young Borrower who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a young human boy whose kindness unwittingly sends Arrietty on a harrowing adventure. Taking place entirely inside a Japanese countryside home, the filmmakers' attention to literally miniscule details easily makes up for its simple story and its lack of Miyazaki's brand of grand themes. Also featuring the voices of Kirin Kiki, Fujiwara Tetsuya, and Tomokazu Miura, The Borrower Arrietty is the highest-grossing Japanese film at the Japanese box office in 2010, and it's also the winner of the Best Animated Film Grand Prize at the Japan Academy Prize. Beneath our floorboards and inside our walls live a tiny race of people called the Borrowers. Pod (Tomokazu Miura), Homily, and their adventurous daughter Arrietty (Shida Mirai) make up one of the few Borrower families that still exist in the world. One day, young boy Sho moves into the house they reside in and notices Arriety briefly. Despite Pod and Homily's warnings about the danger human beings pose to their kind, Arrietty forms a friendship with Sho. Fascinated by the Borrowers, Sho begins to commit acts of kindness for Arrietty's family, only to raise the attention of housekeeper Haru (Kirin Kiki). Blu-ray Edition includes the film in multiple languages and sets of subtitles. It also comes with: Storyboards Sound Effects Featurette Interview with Miyazaki Hayao Interview with Director Yonebayashi Hiromasa Ghibli Sakuhin no Genryu wo Saguru Tabi, a look at the origins of Studio Ghibli films Music Video Trailers Note: Extras and technical information are subject to change.

A simple young girl called Sophie is put under a curse by the evil Witch Of The Waste, transforming her into an ugly old woman. Ashamed of her appearance, Sophie deserts her hat shop and heads into the hills in search of a cure. She comes across the strange, yet awesome Moving Castle, the abode of the much-feared magician, Howl. Inside the castle, Sophie befriends the fire demon Calcifer, who can see through the spell and offers to help her return to her natural form. For his efforts, however, Sophie must help Calcifer break the contract he has with Howl, the details of which he is forbidden to explain. So Sophie assumes the position of the castle's cleaning lady and gets close to the young, handsome Howl, who takes a fancy to the young Sophie, whom he can also see behind her withered facade. Director Hayao Mayazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away) has produced another masterpiece from his Studio Ghibli. A beautifully crafted, mostly hand-drawn animated feature, Howl's Moving Castle is the latest in an impressive catalogue of quite simply, some of the best animation ever committed to celluloid. Blu-ray Edition comes with audio and subtitle options in multiple languages, including English. It includes dubbing script, interview with Pete Docter (director of the English dubbed version of the film), footage from American test screenings, "Lasseter-san, Konichiwa", "Howl no Shiro wa Koushite Ugoita", "The Sounds and Sights of Howl's Moving Castle", and a collection of trailers.

Deceptively simple, beautiful, moving, and hilarious, Dumbo is often overlooked when considering Disney's greatest films because perhaps of its lack of extravagance, its brief running time, and its simple story. Baby elephant Jumbo Jr. is delivered by the stork to his elephant mother with much fanfare but soon receives a cold shoulder from the snobby female pachyderms and the rest of the circus due to his oversize ears. When his mother goes on a rampage in order to protect him from some snickering rubes, she winds up locked away. Dumbo is left without a friend in the world until the street-smart Timothy Mouse decides to become his manager and a telephone line full of delightful jive-talking crows convince him he can fly. Highlights include Dumbo accidentally getting drunk and experiencing the surreal musical sequence Pink Elephants on Parade and a soundtrack packed with such priceless songs as the Oscar-winning 'Baby Mine' and the crow's soulful number, 'When I see an Elephant Fly'. There's nary an imperfect moment to be found in this raucous, tender, sublime film, which has been delighting audiences for generations. Originally planned as a short film for Japan Airlines, fantasy wartime adventure Porco Rosso eventually became a feature film at the hands of Japanese animation master Miyazaki Hayao. Set in Fascist-ruled Italy in between the two World Wars, Porco Rosso traces a World War I veteran fighter pilot (who happens to look like a pig) and his battles against pirates, the secret police and romantic rivals. Designed as "a manga film for middle-aged men whose brains have been worn out," Porco Rosso has just the right balance of action, comedy and even a dash of romance. The film even broke the box office record Miyazaki had set earlier with Kiki's Delivery Service, becoming the highest grossing theatrical animated film release at the time. Porco Rosso is a World War I veteran fighter pilot who now flies around the Adriatic Sea as a bounty hunter. When he's not flying on missions, Porco spends his time at the Hotel Adriano, run by good friend Gina. When American pilot Curtis arrives in the area to work for the pirates, he falls in love with Gina, who is obviously in love with Porco. Out of jealousy, Curtis shoots Porco's plane down. Porco manages to drag his damaged plane to Milan for repairs and meets Fio, his mechanic's granddaughter. After Fio proves herself to be a great mechanic and even offers to help Porco escape from the secret police. However, the pilot returns to discover that the pirates are now working for the Fascist government. Curtis also discovers that Porco is still alive and challenges him to a final duel for Gina. Blu-ray Edition includes storyboards (in picture-in-picture mode), dubbing script, producer interview and trailers.

From the studio that brought us Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away comes the classic anime, Grave of the Fireflies. Set in post-war Japan, only a few weeks before the American occupation, director Isao Takahata's powerful anti-war masterpiece centers on the lives of two brave siblings, a fourteen year old boy named Seita and his four year old sister, Setsuko. With their father away serving in the imperial navy and their mother tragically killed in an air raid, the two children are forced to stay with their aunt, a cruel woman who proves to be a poor caregiver for the two children. After quarreling with their aunt, the two siblings leave the city and venture out on their own, eventually taking up residence in a cave-turned-abandoned bomb shelter. With no adults to turn to, the youngsters must depend solely on each other to survive. But it isn't long before their resources are exhausted, and Seita is forced into stealing so he can feed the starving Setsuko. And sadly, it seems his little sister is getting weaker by the moment. These dark times are illuminated only by the light of the fireflies. Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Akiyuki Nosaka, this Studio Ghibli-produced film has been universally hailed as a classic since its 1988 release. The emotionally charged motion picture highlights the suffering endured by the innocent victims of war, a stunning portrayal that has resonated with audiences worldwide. Ultimately, Grave of the Fireflies is an unforgettable film, sure to bring even the most jaded audience to tears with its poignant tale of the horrors of war, and the children left behind in its wake. Blu-ray Edition includes storyboards, dubbing script, interview with director Takahata Isao, interview with film critic Roger Ebert, audio interviews, audio documentary, stills gallery, and trailers.

Mowgli is a young man who's developed a crush on a girl named Shanti. But Mowgli misses his old life and, more important, his pals, and returns to the woods to find Baloo. But awaiting his homecoming is his old nemesis, Shere Khan. After a delightful opening, in which jungle boy Mowgli (voiced by Haley Joel Osment) recaps much of the original Jungle Book in a sprightly shadow puppet show, The Jungle Book 2 swiftly turns into a carbon copy of the splendidly swinging previous movie. After his old pal Baloo the bear (voiced by John Goodman) draws Mowgli away from the man-village, with all its work and rules, and back into the glorious indolence of the jungle, the movie repeats--in a less energetic form--an encounter with Kaa the snake, the cockney vultures, a musical number at the monkey's palace, the menace of Shere Khan the tiger, and even the song "The Bare Necessities." The only difference is that there's a girl named Shanti along for the ride; sadly, her character is so bland that it doesn't do much to justify the movie's existence. --Bret Fetzer

While Miyazaki Hayao is the undisputed master of grand, sweeping animated epics, Studio Ghibli co-founder Takahata Isao excels in sensitive storytelling and delicately capturing human emotions and experiences. In films like Grave of the Fireflies, Pom Poko, and Only Yesterday, the acclaimed director shows his ability to express a range of sentiments and experiences, and astutely portray the bittersweet changes of life. In his films, one can always find a sense of quiet sincerity and social responsibility. His 1999 work My Neighbors the Yamadas, his last feature film to date, is the simplest, and perhaps most charming, offering to come from Studio Ghibli. Based on Ishii Hisaichi's comic strip Nono-chan, the film details a series of amusing episodes in the lives of the quirky, yet normal Yamada family. Cooking curry again, getting lost at the mall, studying for exams, gossiping at a restaurant, visiting the hospital, conversations, arguments, memories - the film winkingly and meanderingly observes the daily goings of the family, with a gentle touch of humor and humanity. Retaining the comic's aesthetic, the animation is rendered in simple strokes and bathed in soft colors, with back-to-the-basics line drawings that are mischievously expressive. My Neighbors the Yamadas offers a completely different visual experience than other Studio Ghibli films, while retaining that same Ghibli magic. Blu-ray Edition comes with a 45-minute documentary originally made for Nippon Television, storyboards, dubbing script, and promotion video. In addition to the original Japanese soundtrack, the Blu-ray also includes the English, German, Korean, and Mandarin dubs of the film.

Return to a simpler time with Miyazaki Hayao's My Neighbor Totoro, an enchanting fantasy from the legendary Studio Ghibli. The animated classic tells the story of two sisters who discover a furry, bear-like animal and his hidden world of fantastic creatures in a forest near their new home. Despite a down-to-earth story told with simple, traditional animation techniques, Totoro has captivated the imagination of audiences for generations with its adorable characters and a genuine charm that will move viewers of all ages. Since its release in 1988, Totoro has become Studio Ghibli's most iconic work (the creature is now on the studio's logo), and it has also been called as one of the greatest animated films ever made. A university professor moves to a house in the woods with his daughters Satsuki and Mei in order to be closer to his wife, who is recovering from a long-term illness in a hospital. While exploring the area around their new home, the girls discover a gray bear-like creature that they name Totoro. Eventually, the girls become friends with Totoro and discover a magical world hidden deep in the forest. From the wildly imaginative mind of Miyazaki Hayao and Studio Ghibli, Princess Mononoke is a grand fantasy epic about the eternal war between human and nature. Miyazaki began drawing conceptual sketches for the film as early as the late 1970's, creating a complex and visually breathtaking world in which human and various creatures living in nature co-exist in a precarious balance that can tip over at any moment. Set around 15th century Japan, Mononoke follows a young man who sets out to cure a curse put on his arm after defeating a scorned boar god-turned-demon and a girl who was raised in the wild by wolves known as Princess Mononoke. Hugely popular at the time of its release, Princess Mononoke was the first animated film to win Best Picture at the Japan Academy Prize and remains one of the highest grossing Japanese films of all time. It is also considered one of the greatest films made by Japan's premier animation studio. Set during the Muromachi Period (1333-1568) of Japan, Princess Mononoke is a story about a mystic fight between the Animal Gods of the forest and humans. On the side of the Animal Gods is San (Mononoke Hime), a human girl raised by the wolf god Moro. On the side of the humans is Lady Eboshi, building a kingdom for oppressed people by cutting down the forest for her iron-making operation. In the middle of this fierce fighting for survival, Ashitaka, an Emishi boy, struggles to find a way for both sides to co-exist. But the fighting just becomes more and more bloody and all hope seems to be lost... Blu-ray edition features a brand-new 2k high definition print of the film made from a newly created 4k master print. It includes storyboards, dubbing script, "Princess Mononoke in USA" and trailers.

In Disney's unabashedly silly talking-dog movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore), the ridiculously spoiled title pet, is swept away from her comfortable 90210 existence, when the impulsive niece (Piper Perabo) of her wealthy owner (Jamie Lee Curtis) combines dog-sitting with a vacation in Mexico. When Chloe gets lost south of the border, her scrappy Chihuahua admirer, Papi (voiced by George Lopez), embarks on a mission to bring her back home. While Chloe's pint-size dog in shining armour searches for his posh crush, she must contend with the rough-and-tumble side of life, learning a few important lessons along the way. Directed by Raja Gosnell, who is no stranger to dog-themed live-action/CGI flicks, Beverly Hills Chihuahua is an amusing diversion that is custom-made for canine lovers. Barrymore and Lopez are pitch-perfect in their vocal performances, and they are ably assisted by a bevy of Latino talent, including Andy Garcia, Edward James Olmos, and Cheech Marin. Although the film doesn't give its human actors a lot to do, it doesn't matter much, since the dogs are the reason for the entire show. In fact, the more the movie concentrates on its furry protagonists the more giddily entertaining it gets, as exemplified by a fun, fantastical doggie musical sequence that serves as Beverly Hills Chihuahua's undeniable highlight.

After his ambitious directorial debut, Miyazaki Goro goes back to basic with Studio Ghibli's From Up On Poppy Hill, his first collaboration with his father Miyazaki Hayao, who co-wrote the script. More similar to Whisper of the Heart than Tales of Earthsea, Poppy Hill is a simple schoolyard romance based on a manga by Sayama Tetsuro. Popular young actress Nagasawa Masami (I Wish) provides the voice for the film's heroine Umi, while V6's Okada Junichi plays her romantic interest Shun. In addition to being a sweet love story, Poppy Hill is also about preserving memories in the face of modernity. Despite the production being disrupted by the March 11 disasters, the Miyazakis kept their promise and released the film on time in cinemas, providing much-needed lighthearted entertainment for Japanese audiences. Poppy Hill eventually became the highest-grossing Japanese film of 2011, and it won the Animation of the Year award at the 35th Japan Academy Prize. 1960s, Yokohama. 17-year-old Umi (Nagasawa Masami) lives in a house on a hilltop next to the sea with her grandmother and other boarders. Everyday, she raises a signal flag for passing ships, and schoolmate Shun (Okada Junichi) notices the flag every morning from his father's tugboat. The two eventually meet in school at a protest rally to protect the old Quarter Latin building, which houses all the interest clubs. Umi ends up joining the cause, getting other female students to help Shun and the other students clean up the building. In the process, Umi and Shun develop feelings for each other. However, Umi discovers a shocking secret from the past that threatens to drive them apart. This edition includes storyboards, the film's dubbing script, music video, stage events, and trailers.

In 1985, Miyazaki Hayao was fresh off the success of Nausicaa: The Valley of the Wind and decided to start his own animation studio with Takahata Isao. Studio Ghibli was officially established with Laputa: The Castle in the Sky as its first film, and the rest is history. The mythic adventure is not only one of the most important films in Studio Ghibli's history; it's also one of its best. Taking place in a fantastical world with flying pirates, glowing crystals, and floating cities, Laputa is an exciting adventure with iconic images and a timeless message about peace. Still voted by Japanese audiences as one of the best animated films of all time, Laputa: Castle in the Sky comes to Blu-ray for the first time with both the Japan and American versions of the film. Featuring slightly different scores and other minor adjustments, both versions were approved by Miyazaki himself. Pazu's lifelong dream is to find the legendary Laputa ("City in the Sky"), which his father saw before he passed away. One day, he rescues Sheeta after she descends from the sky, and he finds out that she is the keeper of Laputa's secret, hidden in the mysterious flying stone she carries. Soon, they are pursued by ruthless members of the government and a band of pirates, who are all after the secret for their own purposes. The chase takes Pazu and Sheeta on a perilous adventure that brings them closer and closer to unlocking the secret of Laputa. In addition to the alternate American version of the film (in English with Japanese Subtitles), this Blu-ray edition comes with storyboards, dubbing script, the credit-less versions of the opening and ending, and various promotional materials. The Japan version also comes with the French, German, Korean, Cantonese, and Mandarin dubs of the film, as well as its original Japanese soundtrack.

Repackaged Version comes in a newly created package that is consistent with the packaging style of the Ghibli Collection Blu-rays. Blu-ray Edition of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea comes with audio and subtitle options in multiple languages. The North American version of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (English Audio with Japanese Subtitles) is included as a bonus feature. Miyazaki Hayao's 2008 animated masterpiece Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea finally comes to Blu-ray! As with any Miyazaki film, this magical tale of a young goldfish who yearns to become a human girl is not only a movie, but an event in Asia. Released theatrically in Japan in July 2008, the auteur's ninth Studio Ghibli film took the local box office by storm, grossing over 15 billion yen to become the highest-grossing film of the year by a large margin. It is also the first Japanese film to pass the 10 billion yen mark since Miyazaki's previous Howl's Moving Castle. Pointedly sticking to traditional animation in the age of CG, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea is completely hand-drawn to fine detail, from magnificent rippling waves to magical underwater creatures to Ponyo's every gesture. Dotted with the strong environmental themes and fantastical leaps of imagination signature to Miyazaki's works, the film turns an endearing pint-sized love story into a visually and emotionally enchanting experience of grand proportions. A heartwarming family feature for all ages, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea inspires the kind of wide-eyed wonder only possible in a Ghibli film. Five-year-old boy Sosuke lives on a cliff by the sea with his headstrong mother, Lisa. One day he rescues a curious-looking fish from the sea, and names her Ponyo. Sosuke vows to love and protect Ponyo forever, but little does he know, his new pet is no ordinary fish. Ponyo is actually the runaway daughter of an eccentric sea wizard who soon comes to retrieve her. Enchanted by her first taste of the world above water, Ponyo determinedly steals her father's potions to become a human girl, and happily returns to Sosuke on the tails of a terrific storm. Her little escapade, however, releases a great destabilizing magical force into the world. When Sosuke and Ponyo wake up the next morning, they find their town is completely submerged underwater. While the majority of Studio Ghibli's films are directed by Miyazaki Hayao and Takahata Isao, there have been exceptions over the years, including the 2002 feature The Cat Returns. Directed by Morita Hiroyuki who was previously a key animator on My Neighbors the Yamadas, The Cat Returns is a follow-up to late director Kondo Yoshifume's 1995 Ghibli feature Whisper of the Heart. In Whisper of the Heart, the young protagonist and aspiring writer toiled over a fantasy story about a schoolgirl and a dapper feline named Baron. Seven years later, her story turned into the brightly animated and wistfully told coming-of-age fantasy The Cat Returns. Though The Cat Returns is not at the same level as Miyazaki and Takahata's works, even a minor Studio Ghibli release is heads and shoulders above the competition. Shy high school student Haru has long had the uncanny ability to communicate with cats. One day, she rescues a strange cat from oncoming traffic. But the cat turns out to be no ordinary feline. He is actually Prince of the Cat Kingdom and to repay Haru's kindness, he offers to take her hand in marriage! To clear up the mix-up, Haru travels to the Cat Kingdom with the help of Baron. But once she steps into the land of the cats, she discovers that she herself is gradually turning into a cat! This version also features the bonus short film Ghiblies Episode 2. Blu-ray Edition includes storyboards, dubbing script, making of and trailers.
