Fun Ways to Teach your Kids Music Theory
According to science, one of the best ways to stimulate your child's brain development is through music. By picking up an instrument, your child can exhibit a greater increase in full-scale IQ. However, most parents are quick to jump conclusions that by enrolling their kid in music lessons would instantly make them "child prodigies". While it is a great first step, your children need to proactively participate in the lesson and pick up an instrument instead of just scribbling down notes from the class.

As much as we all enjoy listening to music, there is a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction that can be found in playing and creating music as well. To even begin to learn music, we would need the most basic thing of all: a musical instrument.
There are many different types of musical instruments out there, ranging from the traditional and cultural instruments such as the Chinese Gu-Zheng to the more contemporary and modern electronic instruments such as the Yamaha Electone, an electric organ that is better known as a one-man-orchestra.
Learning to play music is not an easy task and requires a great deal of effort and time, but the results are always very worthwhile and filled with satisfaction. Playing and creating music requires a lot of coordination, patience, and a creative mind which can be nurtured. It also never too old to learn any musical instrument, regardless of what many people seem to believe.
The piano is probably the most common musical instrument found in the world; it is also one of the most often learnt instrument. The piano does not reside in any instrument family, although its playing style (hitting of keys) suggests percussion, but the hammer in the piano hits strings that tare strung in the body of the piano, suggesting strings. A typical piano has 88 black and white keys which cover a wide pitch range. The piano, in a sense, is an easier instrument to play compared to others because of its definitive pitch for its individual keys; but it still requires great finess and coordination to master.
String instruments are musical instruments that mainly use a set of strings to produce sound. These strings vibrate when played by a bow or by plucking and resonates with the instruments' acoustic body to produce sound; electronical ones work similarly. String instruments mainly consists of the violin family (viola, cello, double bass), the guitar, the bass, the banjo, and also the folk harp.
Percussion instruments are instruments that basically form the beat or the tempo of a song, and they also act as a guide for many instruments to play together. Percussion instruments are mostly played by beating, or scrapped. Percussion instruments include one of the oldest forms of musical instruments in the world. The timpani, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, and the tambourine are all percussion instruments.
Like its name implies, wind instruments mainly require the flow of air (wind) to produce sound. They also include the subfamily of woodwind and brass instruments. Wind instruments are mainly made up of horns, trumpets, saxophones, flutes, clarinets, and recorders. Many confuse the difference between brass and woodwind instruments, but they are easily identifiable: When playing brass instruments, the players lips vibrate, causing the air in the instrument to vibrate as well; and woodwind instruments typically require a reed to vibrate or for the player to blow against an open gap to vibrate the air inside.
Learning a musical instrument brings many benefits to a person: It gives an extra skill, it is also therapeutic, it trains the mind to multitask and greatly improves hand coordination.
