Huawei Singapore: Redefining the Consumer Electronics Market

As one of the largest manufacturers of telecommunications devices, Huawei continuously innovates its products to keep up with the changing needs of users. Like other successful companies, Huawei started from humble beginnings.

Back in the day

Founded in 1987 in Shenzhen, China, Huawei started off with a business model mainly of selling phone switches imported from Hong Kong. Then, they invested heavily in research and development to improve the design of their products. By 1993, the C&C08-controlled telephone switch was developed, which was the most powerful switch available in China at that time. In 1997, the company launched its wireless GSM-based products and eventually offered a wide range of telecom software. Since then, they have had expanded their product portfolio, producing building telecommunications networks, operational and consulting services, and mobile devices for the consumer electronics market.

Huawei Today

Today, Huawei is one of the biggest companies in the world, earning 5.5 billion USD per annum on average. A large part of its income comes from the sale of electronic devices including USB modems, wireless modems, wireless routers for mobile devices, embedded modules, fixed wireless terminals, wireless gateways, set-top boxes, and video products. Not to mention, its lineup of smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches are among the most sought-after smart devices of late.

Huawei also received many accolades including the only Chinese company to be part of Interbrand’s “Best Global Brands”, ranking 94th place. In 2015, they accepted the “Best Consumer Smartphone” award by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). This is for their flagship smartphone, the Huawei P8, that sports amazing features, redefining the smartphone market.

How to Protect Your Huawei Smartphone from Theft or Loss with These 8 Steps

Every year, smartphone thefts are on the rise according to consumer reports. This is because many users make the mistake of leaving their phones and tablets someplace they shouldn’t have. If your Huawei smartphone is snatched out of your hand, here’s what you can do to increase your chances of getting it back and keep thieves from accessing your information.

Use any strong password or screen lock

This is your first line of defense against theft or loss. Avoid using an easy 4-digit pin, instead, create an alphanumeric password of at least 8 characters. For example, “12345678” is a weak password but “Maria7890” is a harder one to crack. Another strong password you can create is one that has unintelligible words or phrases in it, say, Mriaa!899. Although this nontrivial password could be much harder to remember, using it will ensure your phone is well-protected.

Install a “find my phone” app

GPS and network connections not only help you find the best shops or the fastest route to your home but also aid you in finding your phone should it go missing. There are free smartphone apps or software that harness this technology such as the one that comes with your Huawei handset which is the Android Device Manager. To enable this feature, first, switch on your phone and connect it to a Wi-Fi network. Then enable the GPS or location tracking so you could find your phone on a map. If your handset goes missing, make sure to do these things and send a command quickly to get your phone’s whereabouts. Do not provide the thief an opportunity to switch off your phone, take off its SIM card or put it in a box protected from wireless connections.

Tape a note on the back of your handset

You may not like this idea since it will mar your phone’s sleek look. However, doing so can increase the chances of getting it back in case it gets lost. On a tiny note, write important details like your email address or work number. Then apply a small strip of shipping tape over the note. The tape works well on metallic or plastic surfaces. If your handset has a rubbery or rough finish, write your info on a small strip of duct tape. You can also use an electrical tape that sticks well to such surfaces. Finally, select a spot on the back of your phone that is not subject to constant rubbing from your palm or fingers. If you don’t like this idea of attaching a note to your phone, you can enter your info in the Owner Info section that is found under the Security submenu in the settings.

Back up your files

Huawei has a free cloud storage service that allows you to backup your files like music, videos, photos, and much more. You can also use other over-the-air backup services like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. It’s easy to upload files on them and retrieve those should you use a different device.

Take note of your phone’s unique serial number

Huawei smartphones have an IMEI (International Mobile Station Equipment Identity) or MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier). This is a unique 15-digit serial number that is found in the phone’s circuits, which is difficult to alter. In case your phone gets missing and you report it to the police, they often ask for either of these serial numbers so that they can find a way to recover it. To know your phone’s IMEI or MEID, just check the manual that came with your phone or look for it in the settings. It can also be found etched on the phone’s battery. Another way to determine your handset’s IMEI is by dialing *#06#. A small window will then pop up on your screen that provides the serial number.

Change vital information on your accounts

If you realized your phone is missing and is not anywhere close to you, then go to your computer and log into all your financial, shopping, and other important accounts you have on your phone. Change all their passwords as quickly as you can, starting with your banking and shopping accounts that have your credit card information on file. Then, secure your email information and social network accounts.

Call your credit card company after your phone is gone

This is an imperative procedure if your handset is no longer in your possession. Doing so alerts them to possible fraudulent transactions. The sooner they find out, the easier it will be to file a dispute for unauthorized account charges.

Notify the loss to the police

Informing the police not only speeds up your phone’s recovery but they also help you place a credit freeze on your credit report. Credit report agencies need a copy of the police report before they can freeze your credit. The police report is also an important document when reporting unauthorized transactions on your credit card.
