Breastfeeding is always a challenge for mothers. Other than health issues, like sore nipples and infections, that nursing mothers may face, some societies actually object to a mother breastfeeding her child in public. Rather than letting mothers resort to using formula to feed her child, Medela has invented several breast pumps and other breastfeeding accessories for the comfort and ease of both mother and child. Medela Singapore: The Best Choice for Mothers and Babies

Medela: Humble Beginnings

The founder of the company, Olle Larsson, started out as an engineer and inventor who quickly rose to the position as head of a design department in a renowned Swiss company in year 1955. However, the inventor in him was never satisfied with what he was doing and in the early 1960s, he made the decision to leave the company and set up his very own business for medical and electronic devices. Initially, the company functioned as a distributor that provided supplies for hospitals and households. Then, in 1961, Olle Larsson started Medela, a private company that specialized in electric breast pumps and medical suction equipment, with two other people. Over the years, he continued to add more companies to his portfolio and finally grouped all of his businesses under the roof of Olle Larsson Holding AG.

Under the leadership of the founder’s son, Michael Larsson, Medela has become a global player in breastfeeding products and medical vacuum technology that is based in Switzerland. Medela is made up of two business units, ‘Breastfeeding’ and ‘Healthcare’, that upholds the same values and principles when it comes to research. Continued research, innovation and evaluation of customers’ needs have ensured the company’s steady growth and continued presence in the industry.

We further pledge that our breastfeeding accessory products and literature shall never be used to influence mothers to switch from breastfeeding to infant formula feeding. Medela: Continuous Support for Breastfeeding Mothers

Other than inventing accessories and products for breastfeeding mothers, Medela also runs a website, titled ‘Medela Moments’, that continues to provide updates and information on research done on breastfeeding, tips as well as articles that address issues and concerns that mothers may have about breastfeeding and breast pumping.

Additionally, Medela is the first manufacturer to pioneer a workplace program that meets the needs of working mothers. Medela’s Corporate Lactation Program aims to create supportive workplaces for breastfeeding mothers to provide breastmilk for her baby, even after she has returned to work.

Not only that, Medela supports other initiatives that enhances social and cultural environments within their scope of expertise and also other areas outside of their markets. Medela’s Shared Values Initiative is one such initiative that strives to build and deliver educational packages on the importance and value of human milk and breastfeeding for all newborns in India.

Besides that, Medela supports and sponsors many other initiatives in their home country, Switzerland. Among them would be the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, LK Zug (women’s handball team and Swiss champions in 2013 and 2014) as well as the Pink Ribbon Walk (a breastfeeding campaign) and the Swiss Foundation for the Promotion of Breastfeeding.

Rather than letting a mother resort to using formula to feed her child (that will not give the child the nutrients he/she needs to grow big and strong), why not give Medela’s breastfeeding products a try? That way the child will be protected and the mother will feel at ease knowing that her child can receive all the love and care that she can provide.
