Xbox Games Singapore
The Xbox is Microsoft's gaming console, and is their only foray into the gaming industry. The Xbox brand, however, started only much later in comparison to its competitors from other brands. It would still go on to become a very formidable force in the gaming industry. The first generation Xbox competed directly with Sony's Playstation 2 and the Nintendo Gamecube; it also has a superior set of specification in comparison to the competition which allowed it to have better graphical performance.
The core of the Xbox, the video games themselves
When the first Xbox console – simply named the Xbox – was launched in 2001, there were also launch games which accompanied the Xbox's release. These games included Halo: Combat Evolve, Project Gotham Racing, and Dead or Alive 3. These games would go on to become very famous games and sell over a million copies in the United States alone.
Early Xbox games would not fully maximize the use of its hardware to showcase its graphical capabilities until much later. During that time, most Xbox cross-platform games had only a few additional features and improvements to differentiate them from other platform's. The later years would lead up to more Xbox games being developed, as well as an abundance of exclusive games that would be synonymous with the brand of Xbox.
Xbox exclusive games
As with all gaming platforms, the Xbox also has a lot of exclusive games. Exclusive games are those that are only playable on a certain platform – and in this case, only on the Xbox itself. The Xbox's exclusive games are always the more well known ones compared to other platforms, and for good reason too: They are really fantastic games. Here are some of the Xbox's exclusive games:
- Halo series. Halo is a first-person shooter video game franchise that is created by Bungie, but now under the development and management of 343 Industries, which is a subsidiary of Microsoft, making it a first-party exclusive video games. The series centrally revolves around an interstellar war between humans and an alliance of aliens known as the Covenant. They are led by religious leaders that are called the Prophets which worship the Forerunners, an ancient civilization. The main character in the series is the Spartan super-soldier Master Chief John-117, which the player controls throughout the main games. The term Halo in the title refers to the Halo rings, which are large superweapons used to destroy the parasitic Flood.
The Halo series is one of the best console first-person shooters in the world, and is often known as the Xbox's "killer app". There are currently 12 games in the series, including spinoffs and side stories.
- Forza Motorsport is a Microsoft-platform exclusive racing game, available on both the Xbox platforms and the Windows PC operating system. There are currently two different game series under the Forza Motorsport branding: Forza Motorsport, and an open world focused Forza Horizon series. The series focuses on realistic driving physics, with a strong focus on emulating performance and handling characteristics of real-life cars, modified or stock. The series has a strong resemblance to Playstation's exclusive realistic driving simulator, Gran Turismo and is considered its direect competitor. There have been six Forza Motorsport games and two Forza Horizon games released throughout the franchise's lifetime.
- Gears of War: An Xbox exclusive third-person shooter game. The series is about the conflict between humanity and the Locust Horde, the reptilian hominids. The player controls Marcus Fenix, a soldier that is tasked to destroy the Locust Horde. The player follows Fenix throughout the span of over three games, each one about the ongoing conflict. The game is also an exclusive to the Windows PC operating system. There have been over 5 games in total in the Gears of War series.
If you are on the fence about picking a video game console, the Xbox's strong exclusive titles are a very strong attraction to many gamers, and as such should be under very strong consideration for you.
