Whether it is manual or automatic, Nespresso Singapore produces the best coffee machines. Although it is necessary to purchase the Nespresso capsules to be able to utilise the machine, it does not automatically mean that the coffee will be the same standard. Other than the quality of the coffee, there are various models that come with built-in milk frothers and there are those that don’t. There are models which are solely for the purpose to brew a quick cup of espresso. Before you go ahead and make your final decision, do read on to find out how to choose between the various models available that will suit to your liking.
The price range for these machines can vary depending on the features it offers. Nespresso coffee machines that cost more have extra features such as a larger water tank, capsule bin capacity, drink size options, memory programming of your favourite coffee, and milk frothing accessories. The machines also look more luxurious as it is manufactured with premium materials such as die-cast aluminium.
On the other hand, if you prefer a simpler and straightforward model, you do not have to spend a lot to get your hands on the machine. The cheaper models usually have a smaller water tank and used capsule container so it is needed to be refilled and emptied more often. On the plus side, it is compact in size and can be placed anywhere particularly if you have a smaller kitchen. Nonetheless, you have to bear in mind that the Nespresso capsules will be an ongoing cost which can be more expensive compared to a cup of instant coffee.
Types of coffee
Every individual has their personal favourite when it comes to coffee. Typically, the cheaper Nespresso models can only make espresso. On the other hand, if you like milk in your java, it would be preferable to invest in a machine that is able to froth milk. Instead of milk capsules such as other coffee machines, Nespresso uses real milk to make milk-based coffees.
Also, it is important to think about what type of coffee you would like to make at home. If it’s just espresso shots, it is best to look for models that come without the milk-frothing feature. This is so that you can save a bit of cash.
For bigger cups of coffee, opt for the model with the ‘Lungo’ feature which allows you to control the volume of water for each cup. Besides that, choose models with milk-frothing accessories such as the miniature steam wand so that you can manually froth your milk.
Cleaning the machines
To ensure the longevity of the brewer, it is important to clean occasionally. Similar to the scaling your dentist does on your teeth, cleaning a Nespresso machine is known as descaling. This is because; coffee machines tend to build up deposits of calcium and lime over time. Thus, “descaling” is the act of stripping these deposits from the machine’s surfaces. In order for you Nespresso machine to function properly it is recommended to eliminate these build-ups by descaling on a regular basis.
It is recommended that you descale your machine roughly every three months, but if you use the machine rather often, you would want to ensure that it produces the best flavours. Thus, it is recommended to descale it after every 300 capsules. There are a few models that are equipped with a light that blinks so that you are alerted every time it needs to be descaled. Typically, the process would take no more than 20 minutes.
Nespresso also sells a descaling solution kit that will help you properly descale your coffee machine. Every machine is different but it is advisable to remove any used capsules from the machine and empty the capsule container before you start the cleaning process. After that, put the proper amount of fresh water into your water container and mix in a sachet of descaling solution. Do check out the user guide on the Nespresso website to find out how much water each specific machine needs and the place a container that holds up to a litre of water under the coffee outlet, then turn the machine on.
Depending on the model you own, you will need to press one or more buttons for the descaling process. For VertuoLine, all you need to do is hold a singular button for at least seven seconds. On the other hand, models like Pixie, Inissia, and the Citiz is required to press two flashing buttons at the same time for three seconds. It will take about 10 minutes to complete the descaling process.
