Now that we are more than halfway through the year, it's time to look back at the Nike shoes that took the world by storm. Nike has been known for creating iconic shoes such as the Nike Air Max, Nike SB Stefan Janoski, Flyknit, and so much more. These are the Nike shoes that every cool kid hypebeastwanted to have in 2016.//
atmos x Nike Air Max 1 Safari
With rustic colors that represent the true safari experience, this Nike Air Max shoe was first conceptualized in 2002 and have formed one of the most celebrated collaborations in Nike history. This collaboration, again, resulted in another Safari design last year with tweaks to the original by adding faux fur fabric on the toes and an ice-blue outsole.
Nike SB Koston Hyperfeel 3
Along with Janoski, Koston is also stirring up the skate scene with his last year's Nike SB shoe. What makes this pair stand out is ribbed ankle collar that resembles "socks" and its Hyperfeel upper that gives us a glimpse of the future of skateboarding footwear. Koston Hyperfeel 3 retained the suede fabric which maximizes board feel, in which every skater can attest.
“As far as the innovation side, I can’t think of a shoe that has taken this long to design, that involved the same challenges.” -Eric Koston, Skateboarder
NikeLab ACG Lupinek Flyknit Low SFB
Rugged and perfect for the great outdoors, this NikeLab shoe features the flexibility of the Flyknit and the robustness of the Flywire. It also has a functional mudguard that would keep your shoe looking fly as ever. Though not as appealing to many sneakerheads, it's a perfect example of functionality over design.
Skate Mental x Nike SB Janoski “Pepperoni Pizza”
You see this shoe everywhere - on Tumblr, Facebook, and Instagram, and it's a fun and crazy concept and it works! While many sneakers are coveted for their functionality and rarity, this Janoski shoe is popular for the basic reasons; because it's covered in pizza! It even has yellow shoe laces to match the color!
NikeLab Air Zoom LWP x Kim Jones
Collaborating with British designer Kim Jones, NikeLab has created a harmonious combination of classic design and contemporary style. This shoe is a re-imagining of the classic 1995 Nike Air Zoom LWP and it's simply amazing. It's travel theme just makes this shoe even better. Each pair comes with its own shoe bag for easy storage.
NikeLab Air Rift Wrap
Okay, technically, it's not a sneaker but this shoe is so good that it deserved to be on this list. The Air Rift Wrap is the cross between a sandal and a sneaker; it's simple, easy to wear, and best of all, comfortable. Its gorgeous silhouette makes it an ideal minimalist shoe for both men and women.
NikeLab Air Force 1 Mid “Vachetta Tan”
Think of classic Nike mid-cut shoe in gorgeous tanned leather and you got this one. It's soft palette and classic design screams "millennial". While it is both made for men and women, it would certainly appeal to the latter.
Supreme x NikeLabAir Max 98
With the hype of Supreme in recent years, it's about time that Nike released a collaboration with the most talked-about shoe in 2016. When photos were leaked last year, many were skeptical about its legitimacy but everyone just went crazy when they rolled this baby out. This Supreme x NikeLab collaboration has a retro vibe with various designs including a blacked-out, navy blue, and red.
Nike Air Max LD-Zero H
Simple, yet striking, this Nike Air Max certainly gets attention and it certainly did last year. The LD-Zero H is re-design of the Nike Vintage Boston silhouette and combined with the Air Max 2014 Bubble platform.
“I wanted to create something that would resonate with people who are interested in classic styles.” -Hiroshi Fujiwara, Designer and Artist
Concepts x Nike Free Trainer 1.0 “Thermal”
With Nike's obsession with performance sneakers, the brand collaborated with Concepts to create the feeling of barefoot running. What makes this shoe so special is the tongue which is constructed with a thermal-reactive material that changes color that matches the shoe's upper when it detects heat. It has a clean-white sole to complement its multicolored top, making a fully-functional running shoe that changes when exposed to heat!
