From early years to adulthood, Vera Wang showed great interest in art. From an aspiring designer to one of the greatest names in the fashion industry with collections sold worldwide, Vera Wang changed the way we see high-fashion.

Vera Wang’s rise to fashion

Vera Wang’s career in fashion started in 1970 as a senior fashion editor for Vogue at the age of the 23 for 15 years but later left after denied the position of editor-in-chief. She then joined Ralph Lauren as a design director for accessories. In 1989, Vera found herself at the other end of a wedding proposal from her long-time boyfriend Arthur Becker, to whom she said “yes”. Who knew from that moment, she would rise to fashion fame? Frustrated with the slim selection of bridal gowns for her wedding, Wang sketched her own and commissioned a dressmaker to materialize the design for $10,000.

Realizing her potential and with some financial help from her father, Vera opened her own bridal botique shop in Carlyle Hotel on Madison Avenue, New York later that year. From there, Vera honed her design skills to perfection. Celebrities and famous fashion designers flocked to her doorstep such as Guy Laroche, Arnold Scaasi, Carolina Herrera, and Christian Dior. Her international break came along with the 1994 Olympics when she designed a handmade and beaded costume for figure skater Nancy Kerrigan. Vera then sprung from a bridal gown designer to evening and cocktail ensembles that would take the world by storm.

Today, Vera’s designs are always on the spotlight. From celebrity weddings to premieres and award shows, Vera’s creations will always catch your eye. Famous celebrities such as Halle Berry, Meg Ryan and Charlize Theron are some of the many Hollywood stars that just can’t get enough of Vera Wang.
